Post-war PP and PPK's carry the new eagle over N, indicating that the gun was proofed for nitro or smokeless powder. PP and PPK's carried this proof mark after April 1, 1940. In April of 1940 the Germans replaced the crown over N proof mark wiht the eagle over 'N'. 'N' indicates that the gun has been proofed with 'nitro' or smokeless powder. The German GI usually referred to this ever present mark as the 'Pleitegeir' which means the 'Bankrupt Vulture.'Ĭrown over N is a German pre-war proof mark used before April 1, 1940. The Waffenamt mark indicates that the gun has been accepted by the government inspector at the plant. Still others will be found with Army acceptance marks in the form of an eagle, Swastika, and Waffenamt numbers. In addition to the serial number and proof marks, Model PP and PPK will often be found with Nazi party abbreviations and insignia.

Some of these are merely factory serial numbers and proof marks indicating that the gun has functioned safely when fired with high pressure cartridges. The grips are in perfect condition with no cracks or chips. Truly a testament to the high caliber craftsmanship of the period. The machining, fit, polishing and finish are a work of mechanica/metal art. Mechanically it is in superior condition with a bright frost free barrel bore. No frosting or pitting anywhere inside or out.

The pistol is in excellent condition with the just a small amount of the high luster blue lost on the front of the slide at the muzzle. With this PPK I got the capture paper/declaration, a Hoffman holster in excellent condition and an extra flat bottomed Walther banner marked magazine. This PPK has many of the early features including: 90 degree safety, C shaped hammer block spring, no notch in the top of hammer spur, up side down serial number (read with muzzle pointing at reader), and rear sight machined integral with the slide. The earliest PPK is around serial number 754,xxx - 757,xxx (depending on whom you read) manufactured in 1930/31. Part of the serial number 6712 is scratched very roughly inside the slide. Then my house got hit by lightning about three weeks ago amd my computer melted down so I shot new pictures today.Īnyway this is PPK serial number 767127.
